As a result, the performance of a modern cylinder head gasket depends not only on material strength, but also on layer geometry, sealing design, dimensional stability and manufacturing precision.

Not every engine gasket is manufactured from the same material.
Depending on location, engine design and sealing requirements, gasket technologies may incorporate multi-layer steel, metallic and composite materials, as well as heat- and oil-resistant elastomeric materials for appropriate applications.
