This category of pump uses turbine fuel pump technology. An electric motor drives an internal turbine to provide a continuous and controlled supply of fuel. This design helps maintain stable fuel delivery while reducing operating noise, vibration and pressure pulsation.
Fuel Pressure and Flow Rate
Two of the most important specifications when selecting an electric fuel pump are:
Fuel Pressure – commonly expressed in bar.
Flow Rate – commonly expressed in liters per hour (L/h).
GR fuel pumps are available in different specifications according to vehicle requirements, including versions rated at 3 bar and others at 3.5 bar, with flow rates varying according to pump design and fuel system requirements.
Some types used in Korean vehicles, for example, have specifications including 12V operation, a 38 mm pump diameter and 3.5 bar operating pressure. Flow figures depend on the particular pump and the conditions under which they are measured.
A 3.5 bar pump is not automatically better than a 3 bar pump. The correct pump is the one designed to deliver the pressure and flow required by the vehicle's fuel system.
Physical fit alone is therefore not sufficient. Pressure, flow rate, dimensions and electrical connections must all be correctly matched.
Fuel Pump Quality Is More Than Pressure
Pressure and flow are important, but they are not the only factors that determine fuel pump quality.
Electric motor stability, current efficiency, internal component quality, resistance to fuel and operating temperature, as well as noise and vibration characteristics, all contribute to reliable pump operation.
For this reason, judging a fuel pump only by asking “how many bar?” does not provide a complete picture of its quality or suitability for a particular vehicle.
